Cal 615 Time 15min
Estimated Cost $1.33
This meal requires starting a day before, doesn't take much actual time though, just letting bread rise and bake! (See Sourdough Bread Recipe)
15 min making time does not include making sourdough bread.
With your beautiful loaf of sourdough that you made earlier, cut bread into 1/2" slices.
Preheat a griddle or pan on the stove cooktop to medium low heat to cook the grilled cheese
In a separate sauce pan, combine the canned tomato soup, powdered milk, and water for powdered milk
Mix it all in the same pan you are going to cook it in. No reason to dirty another bowl.
Once it's all mixed, no clumps, cook over medium heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally so it doesn't burn.
In a small bowl, mix the butter powder and water for butter together to get a creamy butter. Set aside.
Now for the sandwich, take two pieces of your beautiful sourdrough bread, spread mayonnaise on one side and mustard on the other piece of bread.
Place (2) pieces of cheese on the mayonnaise side, and turn the mustard piece of bread over to form a cheese sandwich.
On one side of the outside of the sandwich, spread a layer of butter.
Place the buttered side of the sandwich down on the preheated griddle. It should sizzle.
With the unbuttered side facing up, use the back of a spoon to spread butter on the top so it's ready to flip when it's time.
Cook for 3-5 minutes until starts to turn golden brown and cheese starts to melt.
Flip sandwich over to toast the other side for another 3-5 minutes.
While sandwich is grilling, stir the tomato soup in the pan as it warms.
Once both sides of the sandwich have been grilled, place on plate and let cool for a few minutes.
With a ladle, serve a portion of tomato soup into a bowl.
Slice the sandwich in half and serve with delicious tomato soup.
